Magenta

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in knobbly, brown-green speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is black.

The abundance of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of giant, long, narrow leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are grey at the bottom and beige with magenta edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces a handful of medium-sized, lime blossoms with circular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like freshly baked bread.

In early summer it produces tiny, long, straight fruit. The fuzzy blood red skin is thick and edible when cooked; it is bitter and spicy, and the soft red flesh is spicy and salty and syrupy. The blood red seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
