Copperfern

Shrub type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 71 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of branched, crooked stems covered in cracked, yellow-brown bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches are very long, thin and wispy with dozens of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of small, finger-like, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are solid peach with indigo patches, strong and smooth.

In early summer it produces several tiny, bronze blossoms with oval-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a mildly strong scent that smells like cinnamon.

In late autumn tiny 6 pointed fruits ripen. The hairy blood red skin is stretchy and inedible, and the crunchy olive flesh is salty and oily. The silver seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The entire flower is edible and slightly bitter.
