Copperwood

This average-sized tree grows up to 11 meters (36.1 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 670 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wavy trunk covered in paper-thin, ridged, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale brown-grey.

The abundance of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of leathery, large, fan-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are brilliant red at the bottom and bold purple with pastel blue patches at the top.

In late summer it forms giant, olive, shelled seeds.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
