Waterstem Bush

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 27 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has many narrow, angular stems covered in fine, wrinkled, black bark, and the wood inside is yellow-brown.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright with dozens of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of huge, asymmetrical, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are cyan and cream, robust and clammy.

In late summer it produces several small, black flowers with sickle shaped petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like perfume.


It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
