Slate Fruit Tree

This big fruit tree grows up to 22 feet (6.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 82 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in smooth, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the flexible wood is dark brown.

The excessive amount of branches are short stubs and are covered with small bunches of small, asymmetrical leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are florescent blue and slate.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of large, orange blossoms with 6 pointed petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like cherry.

In early autumn it produces , oval fruit. The sticky dark grey skin is stretchy and edible when boiled; it is very savoury, and the crunchy hazel flesh is salty and dry. The gold seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
