Blue Spine Agave

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This small leaf succulent grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall. The wide stem is lime green, and is covered in brittle white spines. The toothed-edged, needle-like leaves are lilac on the edges and blue at the center. Thick bunches of them grow from the base in alternating pairs. The leaves are flimsy, but do not detach easily.

It is quick growing, taking 10 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with petals that are peach on the underside and caramel on the top, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of 9 petals in raised layers. It has a mildly strong scent that smells like rotten meat.

The leaf succulent's skin is thick, the intense blue flesh is rough, and the aquamarine sap is thin.
