Pineapple Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wavy trunk covered in hard, wrinkled, black bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pine-coloured.

The sparse amount of branches are short and thin and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, wide leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are caramel and red.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of giant, pink blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like fruity.

In late autumn it produces large, broad, flat fruit. The rough subtle orange skin is peel-able and edible when roasted; it is sweet and savoury, and the crunchy peach flesh is bitter and powdery. The cream seeds are large and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
