Orangeberry

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 68 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in hard, wrinkled, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is dark brown.

The abundance of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with small bunches of large, wide leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are found in peach, hazel and purple varieties.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of small, orange blossoms with needle-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have a strong scent that smells like musk.

In early summer it produces small, circular fruit. The smooth orange skin is tough and inedible, and the soft deep blue flesh is salty and juicy. The light brown seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
