Silverfern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 40 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many thick, crooked stems covered in wrinkled, dark green bark, and the wood inside is pine-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground that and are covered with large amounts of huge, long, tapering, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are silver and peach, sturdy and crispy.

In mid-spring it produces large amounts of medium-sized, grey flowers with fan-like petals. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like marzipan.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for making paper
The leaves are excellent for making pulp fibers.
