Knobbly Hazelfruit

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 69 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wavy trunk covered in thin, knobbly, brown-green bark, and inside, the hard wood is white with black speckles.

The branches are long and slender and are covered with small bunches of huge, thick leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in crimson, cyan and gold varieties.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of medium-sized, lilac blossoms with 3 heart-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a weak scent that smells like soap.

In early winter it produces small, wide fruit. The fuzzy hazel skin is tough and edible when roasted; it is sweet, and the soft cyan flesh is sweet and dry. The lime seed is very large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
Several parts of the tree have medicinal properties.
