Pine-Coloured

This average-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 19 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has several narrow, curved stems covered in fine, waxy, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is yellow.

The branches are short stubs with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of small, finger-like, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are solid lime with slate patches, delicate and crispy.

In early spring it produces thousands of large, violet blossoms with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like a damp log.

In mid-autumn very large perforated fruits ripen. The fuzzy crimson skin is tough and inedible, and the crunchy lilac flesh is sweet and juicy. The yellow seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.
