Lilac

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 23 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, crooked trunk covered in thin, silky, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is silver.

The sparse patches of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, needle-like leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are solid lime with slate patches.

In early spring, it produces a handful of large, brown blossoms with pleated petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like honeysuckle.

In early winter it produces small, 4 pointed fruit. The rubbery lime skin is thick and inedible, and the crunchy lilac flesh is salty and sour and juicy. The lime seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

All parts of the tree are edible.
