Indigo

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 51 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, twisting trunk covered in ridged, dark gray bark, and inside, the hard wood is dark brown.

The sparse amount of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of giant, asymmetrical leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are white and indigo.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, vibrant blue blossoms with flame-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like mint.

In mid-summer it produces , long, curved fruit. The clammy brilliant red skin is tough and inedible, and the slightly crunchy black flesh is spicy and oily. The beige seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
