Speckled Willow

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 26 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several sturdy, straight stems covered in silky, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is pale yellow.

The branches trail down towards the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of tiny, circular, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are peach and bold green, durable and sticky.

It produces thousands of giant, red flowers with slender, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like a damp log. In late summer it forms largeyellow, spiky-shelled seeds.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
Offering it in a bouquet is supposed to bring good luck.
All parts of the fruit tree are edible.
