Copperleaf

This modest-sized tree grows up to 26 meters (85.3 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 77 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, curved trunk covered in smooth, burgundy bark, and inside, the very dense wood is copper-coloured.

The branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with thick bunches of waxy, tiny, pleated leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are solid peach or magenta, with gentle red zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of giant, copper blossoms with pleated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like cheese.

In late summer it forms giant, brown aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with grassy ground between them.
