Blueberry

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 17 feet (5.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 31 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in smooth, dark green bark, and inside, the dense wood is pine-coloured.

The tangled mess of branches trail down to the ground and are covered with copious amounts of huge, asymmetrical leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are lime and yellow.

In early spring, it produces many tiny, hazel blossoms with perforated petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like rotten meat.

In mid-summer it produces tiny, perforated fruit. The rough sky blue skin is tough and edible when roasted; it is bitter and spicy, and the soft deep purple flesh is salty and oily. The white seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
