Cyanberry

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 91 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many thick, angular stems covered in fine, silky, light brown bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches are short, rigid and upright that and are covered with large amounts of small, thick, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are white and gold, resilient and smooth.

In early spring it produces several large, cyan blossoms with asymmetrical petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like cheap aftershave.

In early winter small long, tapering fruits ripen. The hairy yellow skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is bitter, and the crunchy azure flesh is spicy and powdery. The crimson seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
