Orange Cupflower

Flower type: Perennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its lime green stem is thick and splits into several branching stems at the top, and the giant, green leaves are needle-like with smooth edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

6 to 11 medium-sized flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 15 cm (5.9 inches) wide, with petals that are slate on the underside and florescent orange on the top. The flower head is shaped like a cup with 13 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like grass cuttings, and it has lots of pollen. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to insects.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
