Lilac

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its black stem is wispy, and the huge, yellow leaves are long, tapering with serrated edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Lots of large flowers grow in drooping bunches like grapes. The flowers are 1 cm (0.4 inches) wide, with alternating petals of lilac and cream, with a peach central disk. The flower head is largely flat with many tightly layered narrow petals. They are very delicate.

It has a powerful scent that smells like baby powder, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
Several parts of the flower have medicinal properties.
