Orangeberry
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This big fruit tree grows up to 26 feet (7.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a thick, curved trunk covered in fine, knobbly, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is mahogany-coloured.
The small handful of branches are very long and thin and are covered with copious amounts of huge, very narrow and elongated leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are bright orange and washed-out purple.
In early spring, it produces thick bunches of giant, silver blossoms with fan-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like onion.
In late autumn it produces small, finger-like fruit. The smooth bright orange skin is delicate and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the crunchy cyan flesh is bitter and dry. The blood red seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.
The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
