Burgundy Waterflower

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its stem)

This small flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its burgundy stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 3 and are very thin and straight, and split into dozens of branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the miniature, gray-green leaves are kidney-shaped with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Dozens of small flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with petals that are blood red on the edges and lilac at the center. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 55 curved petals. They are very delicate.

It has a weak scent that smells like mango, and it has copious amounts of pollen. It is pollinated by insects and is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
