Indigo

This big fruit tree grows up to 28 feet (8.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 77 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a wide, straight trunk covered in cracked, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is gray.

The small handful of branches are short stubs and are covered with small amounts of huge, very narrow and elongated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are pink and brown.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of medium-sized, purple blossoms with 9 triangular shaped petals. They detach easily and have the faintest scent that smells like warm cookies.

In mid-summer it produces , slender, 4 pointed fruit. The crispy sky blue skin is peel-able and inedible, and the very soft indigo flesh is spicy and very juicy. The hazel seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
