Indigo Fruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This huge fruit tree grows up to 65 feet (19.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 30 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, curved trunk covered in very thick, wrinkled, dark brown bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The numerous branches are long and thin and are covered with handfuls of miniature, perforated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are olive with indigo tips.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of large, slate blossoms with circular shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like musk.

In early autumn it produces tiny, long, narrow fruit. The smooth indigo skin is peel-able and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the soft bronze flesh is sweet and powdery. The black seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
