Yellow Amber Bloom

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.3 feet (38 cm) tall. Its gray-green stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 5 and are very thin and straight, and split into dozens of branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the large, green leaves are light hazel on the underside and are finger-like with smooth edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Dozens of large flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 12 cm (4.7 inches) wide, with pale yellow petals that gradient shift to amber on the outer edge. The central disk is amber. The flower head is made up of many petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight sphere. They detach easily.

It has a delicate scent that smells like lemon, and it has copious amounts of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind and is ignored by most insect species.
