Coppervine

This massive shrub grows up to 11 feet (3.4 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 162 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several long and flexible, curved stems covered in fine, ridged, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches are short and slender with thousands of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of large, fan-like, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are indigo and pale yellow, rigid and sticky.

In late spring it produces thousands of small, turquoise blossoms with stiff, pointed petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like cheese.

In early winter cuboid fruits ripen. The fuzzy peach skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is sweet and savoury, and the very soft white flesh is sweet and juicy. The beige seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.
