This sky blue or copper moss is commonly found growing in medium-sized clumps In heathlands.
It is giant, growing up to 1.1 feet (33 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they spread and grow quickly, and is extremely frail; it dislikes being stepped on.
When mature, emerald teardrop-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release thousands of spores; it does not cause many allergic reactions.

It has impressive regenerative properties.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
