Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 45 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has many sturdy, curved stems covered in rough, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is pale brown-grey.
The branches are tall, rigid and upright with dozens of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of large, needle-like, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are copper at the bottom and cream with red edges at the top, robust and fuzzy.
In mid-summer it produces balls of tiny, blood red flowers with umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They fall easily and have the faintest scent that smells like cherry.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
