Purple Velvet

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This short leaf succulent grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The very thin stem is pink-red, and is covered in sharp spines. The irregular-edged, slender, pointed leaves are generally bright purple. Very large amounts of them grow from the base in a spiral pattern. The leaves are flimsy, and are very difficult to pull away.

It is slow growing, taking 17 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with solid hazel petals decorated with ashy orange dots and a light grey central disk grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is largely flat with 33 raised narrow petals. It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like alcohol.

The leaf succulent's skin is tough, the indigo flesh is waxy, and the violet sap is thin.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
