Twistvine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This large shrub grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for around 77 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has several wide, straight stems covered in fine, smooth, white with black speckled bark, and the wood inside is pale brown.

The branches trail down to the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of small, cylindrical, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are either bright yellow, or black with white splotches, sturdy and crispy.

In early spring it produces several medium-sized, turquoise blossoms with fan-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like garlic.

In early winter small pleated fruits ripen. The fuzzy hazel skin is stretchy and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the soft black flesh is sour and sticky. The bronze seeds are small and are located in the centre of the fruit.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
It blooms only at night.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
