Purplefruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 63 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in ridged, black bark, and inside, the flexible wood is white.

The branches are very short and thin and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, wispy leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either hazel or purple, with cream dots.

In early spring, it produces clusters of large, brown blossoms with 2 pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are hardy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like varnish.

In early autumn it produces small, 8 pointed fruit. The soft orange skin is peel-able and sour, and the crunchy crimson flesh is salty and juicy. The drab orange seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
