Marzipan Fruit Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 20 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wonky trunk covered in silky, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is burgundy.

The sparse amount of branches are very short and thick and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, broad, flat leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are hazel and beige.

In early spring, it produces handfuls of large, cream blossoms with long, tapering petals. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like marzipan.

In early winter it produces tiny, fan-like fruit. The hairy brown skin is thin and sweet and spicy, and the slightly crunchy azure flesh is savoury and very dry. The hazel seed is very large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
