Grey Cube Flower
Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)This small flower grows up to 6 inches (15 cm) tall. Its purple or olive stem is very thick, and the tiny, red leaves are thick with rounded edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
Several giant flowers grow in drooping bunches like grapes. The flowers are 5 cm (2.0 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of dark grey. The flower head is shaped like a cube with 45 widely spaced, narrow petals. They detach easily.
It has the faintest scent that smells like rainy days, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is a self-pollinator.
