Burgundyberry

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 180 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several slender, curved stems covered in rough, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is pale yellow.

The branches trail down across the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of huge, slender, pointed, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either gentle yellow or amber, with red streaks, flimsy and leathery.

In mid-spring it produces handfuls of tiny, blood red blossoms with wide petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like fish.

In early autumn triangular fruits ripen. The fuzzy slate skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy peach flesh is sweet and sticky. The crimson seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.
