Lilacleaf

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 11 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several narrow, slanted stems covered in thin, smooth, dark gray bark, and the wood inside is black with white speckles.

The branches are very short and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of miniature, perforated, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in cyan and lilac varieties, delicate and fuzzy.

In late summer it produces lots of tiny, amber flowers with finger-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like old shoes.

Ivy often grows along the trunk.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
A particular bird species likes to nest in it.
It has impressive regenerative properties.
