Bluefruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, twisting trunk covered in fine, ridged, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The abundance of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with copious amounts of huge, spear shaped leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are green at the bottom and caramel with brown streaks at the top.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of giant, white blossoms with perforated petals. They are hardy and have a soft scent that smells like honeysuckle.

In late summer it produces , 8 pointed fruit. The fuzzy sky blue skin is stretchy and sweet and sour, and the very soft black flesh is salty and sour and very dry. The red seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
