Bloodfruit Tree

This big fruit tree grows up to 41 feet (12.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 45 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a wide, slanted trunk covered in waxy, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is gray.

The tangled mess of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with handfuls of huge, asymmetrical leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of slate that gradient shifts to olive at the top.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of tiny, white blossoms with 4 circular shaped petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like cigarette smoke.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, asymmetrical fruit. The soft blood red skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy amber flesh is sour and very dry. The beige seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
