Bloodvine

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its stem)

This enormous flower grows up to 11.8 feet (3.6 meters) tall. Its lime green stem is thick and splits into 9 branching stems at the top, and the huge, blood red or lime leaves are perforated with jagged edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Two giant flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 59 cm (23.2 inches) wide, with solid magenta petals decorated with sky blue lines and a crimson central disk. The flower head is largely flat with 39 widely spaced round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like skunk spray, and it has an average amount of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind and is ignored by most insect species.

Ivy often grows along the trunk.
