Red-Tipped

Flower type: Biennial (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This large flower grows up to 6.0 feet (1.8 meters) tall. Its brown stem is thick and straight with a curved tip, and the giant, red leaves are stiff, pointed with smooth edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

Dozens of tiny flowers grow in bunches along the stem. The flowers are 19 cm (7.5 inches) wide, with petals that are red on the underside and dark purple on the top. The flower head is shaped like a tube made up of several raised, round-tipped petals. They fall easily.

It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like rotten eggs, and it has a modest amount of pollen. It is a self-pollinator.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
