Azurefern

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 43 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has several very thick, straight stems covered in rough, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches trail down towards the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of large, very narrow and elongated, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in azure, grey and lime varieties, resilient and covered in fine hairs.

In early spring it produces many tiny, brilliant red blossoms with long, narrow petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like freshly washed clothes.

In late winter small triangular fruits ripen. The sticky brown skin is tough and inedible, and the slightly crunchy white flesh is sour and sticky. The beige seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
Several parts of the grass have medicinal properties.
