Burgundy Trumpetvine

This enormous shrub grows up to 14 feet (4.3 meters) tall and lives for around 15 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous slender, curved stems covered in fine, knobbly, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are long and slender with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, circular, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are peach and blue, rigid and covered in fine hairs.

In early spring it produces dozens of giant, gentle purple flowers with long, narrow petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a powerful scent that smells like bleach.
