Violet

This big fruit tree grows up to 26 feet (7.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 18 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a flexible, curved trunk covered in hard, waxy, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the light wood is white.

The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, circular leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either lime, or hazel with faded purple dots.

In early spring, it produces many balls of giant, violet blossoms with long, narrow petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have no scent.

In mid-summer it produces small, teardrop-shaped fruit. The fuzzy grey skin is stretchy and edible when boiled; it is sweet and salty, and the very soft hazel flesh is sweet and very dry. The gold seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
