The thin stem is intense red or gold, and is covered in dozens of rigid indigo spines. The bulbous, brown trunk can grow to as much as 110 feet (33.5 meters) in diameter. Its silver branches trail down towards the ground.
The toothed-edged, sickle shaped leaves are generally black. They are light, but take some effort to detach.
It is quick growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with petals that are either lilac or lime, with a yellow center grow at the top, reappearing after 4 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a tube made up of 20 tightly layered, round-tipped petals. It has a delicate scent that smells like baby powder.
The caudiciform's skin is very thick, the intense orange flesh is rough, and the bronze sap is thin and causes severe cramps if consumed.
