Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 63 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in very thick, knobbly, brown bark, and inside, the very light wood is brown.
The branches are very short and slender and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, very narrow and elongated leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are found in amber, vibrant purple and faded yellow varieties.
In early spring, it produces lots of medium-sized, lime blossoms with pleated petals. They detach easily and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like pot-purri.
In early winter it produces , spherical fruit. The hairy vibrant orange skin is thick and sweet, and the very soft green flesh is savoury and sticky. The green seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.
The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
