Starlight Blue

This small flower grows up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. Its orange-yellow stems grow in bunches of 3 and are thin and straight, and the tiny, yellow-green leaves are very narrow and elongated with toothed edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

A single large flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 1 cm (0.4 inches) wide, with petals that are either sky blue or cream, with a yellow center. The flower head is shaped like a star with 49 widely spaced, narrow petals. They are very delicate.

It has a strong scent that smells like mint, and it has very little pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but only one species in particular.
