Aquamarine

This big fruit tree grows up to 35 feet (10.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 35 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in thick, wrinkled, gray bark, and inside, the light wood is yellow-brown.

The small handful of branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, slender, pointed leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are hazel at the bottom and red with muted purple streaks at the top.

In early spring, it produces balls of tiny, turquoise blossoms with perforated petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are hardy and have an overpowering scent that smells like varnish.

In mid-summer it produces , triangular fruit. The waxy aquamarine skin is stretchy and savoury, and the soft sky blue flesh is spicy and savoury and very juicy. The bronze seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
