Manly Petal

Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its stem)

This small flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its moss green stem is thick, and the small, hazel and yellow leaves are slender, pointed with rounded edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the stem.

Several small flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 16 cm (6.3 inches) wide, with dark red petals on the lower layer and orange petals decorated with amber dots on the inner layer. The central disk is bronze. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 20 petals. They fall easily.

It has an intensely strong scent that smells like a man, and it has very little pollen, but can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind and is ignored by most insect species.

It makes excellent hedges.
It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
