Bloodfern

This small tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 527 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, wonky trunk covered in wrinkled, brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow-brown.

The sparse amount of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with thick bunches of crispy, huge, triangular leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are found in silver and blood red varieties.

In early spring, it produces bunches of small, black blossoms with pleated petals. They fall easily and have a powerful scent that smells like rotten eggs.

In late summer it forms giant, yellow, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
