Bloodvine

Flower type: Perennial (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This short flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its red stem is thin, and the large, silver leaves are thick with irregular edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Dozens of medium-sized flowers grow in drooping bunches like grapes. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with alternating petals of blood red and black, with an amber central disk. The flower head is shaped like a tube with 44 widely spaced, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has an intense scent that smells like lavender, and it has very little pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.

It is suitable for making paper
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is difficult to cut through.
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
