Violet Blood

This average-sized flower grows up to 7 inches (18 cm) tall. Its violet stem is thin and straight, and the large, emerald leaves are very narrow and elongated with serrated edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Each stem splits 3 to 6 times; a single tiny flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 30 cm (11.8 inches) wide, with alternating petals of blood red and black, with an amber central disk. The flower head is largely flat with 40 widely spaced round-tipped petals. They detach easily.

It has an intense scent that smells like mint, and it has a modest amount of pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
