Conifruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 61 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in delicate, silky, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the light wood is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small amounts of small, spear shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of pink-red that gradient shifts to peach at the top.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of small, dark yellow blossoms with 5 pointed petals. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like chocolate.

In early summer it produces tiny, cuboid fruit. The fuzzy lime skin is peel-able and inedible, and the crunchy turquoise flesh is spicy and powdery. The blood red seed is small and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
